Hackney’s 2026 council election results are in: the Greens have won seven wards, including Dalston, De Beauvoir, Shacklewell, Brownswood, Hackney Central, Hackney Downs and Hackney Wick.

In Dalston, newly elected mayor Zoë Garbett was re-elected as a councillor with 1,862 votes and is expected to trigger a by-election. She is joined by Rachel Nkiessu-Guifo on 1,394 votes, while Labour’s Grace Adebayo lost her seat.

De Beauvoir elected Greens Paul Anderson (1,157 votes) and Gemma Per-Bo (1,198 votes), unseating Labour’s Jasmine Martins and Joe Walker.

Shacklewell returned Greens Ulgen Semerci (1,479 votes) and Cathy Troupp (1,361 votes), with Labour’s Richard Lufkin losing his seat.

Brownswood elected Soraya Adejare (1,554 votes) and Florence Schechter (1,370 votes). Adejare defected from Labour after being deselected and increased her vote from 1,323 in 2022.

Hackney Central sent three Greens to the council: Izzy Castello-Cortes (2,061 votes), Pascale Frazer-Carroll (1,818 votes) and James Tilde (1,681 votes), unseating Labour’s Sheila Suso-Runge.

Hackney Downs returned Greens Alastair Binnie-Lubbock (2,668 votes), Dylan Law (2,499 votes) and Laura Louise-Fairley (2,574 votes).

Hackney Wick also flipped to the Greens, with Aaron Briddon (1,750 votes), Tyrone Scott (1,727 votes) and Jam Anker (1,636 votes), beating cabinet member Chris Kennedy.

Conservatives held Springfield with Simche Steinberger (1,971 votes), Michael Levy (1,932 votes) and Shaul Krautwirt (1,858 votes), while Stamford Hill West retained Hershy Lisser (1,428 votes) and Benzion Papier (1,550 votes).

The results underline a dramatic shift in Hackney politics, with Labour losing seats in central wards as the Greens make a strong advance ahead of the new council term.
